The Fragile Hourglass: how the arrest item actually works

Updated Sep 11, 2026v1.0.1Reported2 min read

For weeks the Fragile Hourglass was the game's mystery item — thrown "blind", with conflicting stories about what it did. One creator burned five matches of repeated attempts on it, and the answer is out: throw it at a downed Michael, and it strips his ability to stand for a long stretch. It's the enabling item for arrests. Reported

The rule that makes it work

The timing is everything: the hourglass isn't a stun and it isn't a trap — it's a pin for a Michael who is already on the ground. Throw it at a standing Michael and you've wasted the rarest utility in the game. The sequence:

  1. Down him first. A knockdown from melee (high-Capability characters like Bob excel) or a clean rifle headshot puts him on the floor.

  2. Throw the hourglass at the downed Michael. He loses the ability to stand for a long period — long enough to matter. He does eventually recover.

  3. Fill the arrest meter. Officers close to him, staying close, hitting him. The hourglass buys exactly the time that meter needs — this is what turns arrests from a miracle into a plan. One source believes even Reality Tear can't break him out of the pinned state. Unverified

Without the hourglass, one experienced creator described successful arrests as something he'd seen once or twice across a huge number of matches. With it, a solo arrest is achievable — the S6 creator proved it across repeated attempts.

The warnings

  • Don't stand on top of him without a plan. A downed Michael can execute from the ground; the pin removes standing, and our sources treat the pinned window as the safe approach — but sloppy spacing around downs is still the classic death. Reported
  • One use. It shatters on the throw. Miss the window, lose the item.
  • The teammate bug: one source reports the hourglass instantly killing teammates it hits. Unexplained, possibly a bug, unresolved — do not throw it into a scrum. Unverified

Where to find one

It's a rare spawn with semi-known locations and a per-match chance — more than one can appear in a match. See rare item spawns, and the item page for the stat card.
