Does it earn a slot? Probably not, and that's the headline. The shotgun is rarer than the Magnum, carries only 4 shells, and is widely rated weak by the systematic testing source — an unusual verdict for a horror game's shotgun, which is exactly why it's worth stating plainly.
What it's for
Close-range damage, in the one range band where fighting Michael is most dangerous — his grabs and your shotgun want the same distance, and his grab usually wins the exchange rate. The Magnum matches the job with more rounds; the rifle beats the job from safety.
If you carry it anyway
- Pair it with high Resourcefulness (firearm damage scales with the stat) or it's four loud disappointments.
- Same universal rule: never fire into an execution animation — immune means immune.
- Treat it as a door-defense weapon: a staged escape's last argument, not a hunting tool.
