Does it earn a slot? For one character, yes; for everyone else, mostly no. Drinking triggers the drunk state: reduced fear gain and a melee boost — genuinely useful — bought with distorted vision, unstable movement, extra noise, and visual impairment. For most heroes that's a bad trade outside a planned fight.

The Bob exception

Bob Sims's Heavyweight trait removes the penalties and keeps the upsides — reduced fear, melee boost, no wobble, no noise, no blur. For Bob, beer is a clean pre-fight buff, and the drunk-synergy tarot cards point at a whole build. For everyone else, the +5% drunk-damage perk is explicitly flagged a trap on our perk list.

Can vs bottle

Same drunk effect; the bottle adds utility — throwable, and on breaking it leaves a broken bottle usable as a (poor) small weapon. If you're drinking anyway, drink the one that leaves a weapon.

Fear context

Fear interrupts skill checks and interactions (the fear rules), so fear resistance isn't a joke stat — it's why the drunk trade exists at all. It's also why the sober version of the same idea (high Personality) is usually better.
