Does it earn a slot? Yes — experienced players actively hunt it. The pickaxe is the two-handed heavy of the best tier: serious damage, breaks exit boards like the fire axe, with two real costs — heavy swings drain stamina hard, and it has durability and breaks.
Handling the costs
- Stamina is the hidden meter. Swinging a pickaxe through a fight and then needing to run is how heavy-weapon players die tired. Swing deliberately; pair naturally with the Unwinded perk (−15% all stamina use).
- Durability means retirement planning. Know where the next weapon is before this one's last swing.
- Michael can pick it up. A dropped pickaxe is a donated pickaxe — he throws civilian weapons, and this one hurts.
Axe or pick?
Both break boards and anchor fights. The fire axe dies into a throwable hatchet (a feature); the pickaxe hits like a two-hander while it lives. Routes with boards want either; fights near your escort want the one you can afford the stamina for.
